Come and photograph some of the Zoo's rare and very special animals with our professional photographer.

This will be a unique opportunity for you to photograph some of the animals here at the Zoo on a one to one, close up and very personal experience. Please remember that all the animals here are wild, they can bite, they are not trained in any way and therefore photographs can be tricky and time consuming but also great fun.

Hello I am John Hammond, Exmoor Zoo's photographer. Why not join us here at the Zoo for a half or full day learning a little more about your camera and its usage. I'll show you how I take the images in the zoo and how you can achieve similar results.

Our photo days this year are for beginners and people who have upgraded from compact to DSLR cameras. Ideally a DSLR will be the camera of choice and the best lenses would be a 100/300mm telephoto and a 17/85mm or equivalent. This is just a guideline as a standard 50mm lens will give you some great shots. If you only own a compact camera you will still be able to create some great images!

So come along have a great day and enjoy learning with your camera. If you would like to have a look at my website then use this link and do not forget all the pictures on the the official Zoo website are mine!

Tea or coffee during the day and lunch is all included in the price at the Zoo. Please remember the Zoo is at an altitude of 1000 feet and the weather can change quickly outside of summer so please bring clothing for inclement weather and walking boots!

Prices are £75.00 for half day and £150.00 for a full day.

All the images on this website are available as large prints and can be purchased from me at a nominal rate. Contact me on

This image is one taken by myself at the zoo in May 2012 and really gives a very natural and typical facial pose.
