Bird keeper/releif mammal keeper required 04.04.2021

Exmoor Zoo is looking to take on a bird Keeper/relief mammal keeper. The individual will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated individual. Some experience working as a keeper in aviculture is essential.

The duties will be to assist the bird management team in the running of their department to ensure high standards of welfare and husbandry for the birds. You will be a good team worker, as well as show initiative, have a positive outlook and be responsible for all the welfare of the birds under your care. You will also play an integral role in training and enrichment of the animals, as well as maintenance of their enclosures.

Requirements of the position;

it would be good to have a minimum of one-year full time employment in a recognised Zoo environment. It will also be expected that you have some experience with aviculture (parrots, softbills, ibis, etc.). Some of this experience can be given here.

You should be prepared to gain or ideally have passed the DMZAA or equivalent.

Hold a full U.K. driving licence, and have your own vehicle due to location.

You ideally will be able to show independence and self-reliance.

You will be required to work Bank Holidays and weekends.

You will have two fixed days off per week. 

Wages will be c £18,600 - £20,000 P/A or more depending on suitability and experience.

Carnivore keeper/genral keeper required 06.04.2021

Exmoor Zoo is looking to take on a general keeper within the Carnivore & general sections of the Mammal Department, who will be an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual.

The duties will be to assist the carnivore team in the running of that section to ensure high standards of welfare and husbandry for the animals. You will also play an integral role in training and enrichment of the animals, as well as maintenance of their enclosures.

Requirements of the position;

You will be required to have a minimum of one year’s full-time employment in a recognised Zoo environment. It will be expected that you have experience with carnivore keeping particularly category 1 animals and some working skills with other animals. Some of this “other” experience can be given here.

You should have passed the DMZAA or equivalent or be prepared to gain those qualifications.

Hold a full U.K. driving licence and have your own vehicle due to location.

You ideally will be able to show people management and potential team leadership skills.

Keep up to date with current practices in animal husbandry and welfare and have a working knowledge of the Conservation and Education roles within modern Zoos.

Be able to keep calm in stressful situations and be able to handle and manage animals during certain procedures.

Have a basic understanding of D.I.Y.

You will be required to work Bank Holidays and at least one day at the weekends.

You will have two fixed days off per week. 

Wages will be c £18,616 rising to £20,000 per annum depending on suitability and experience.
